Darkbats Alenwen & Patsy Wackelwitz are lovingly crafted fan-made series based on the online role-playing games The Lord of the Rings Online and The Elder Scrolls Online. In these virtual worlds, players have the freedom to create their own characters and stories – and that is exactly what lies at the heart of these series. Born out of a passion for role-playing, the team behind Darkbats Fantasy has dedicated itself to bringing their in-game experiences and adventures to life through cinematic storytelling.
The Darkbats Fantasy team consists of three passionate players, each contributing their unique skills and talents to the project. Together, they strive to make the stories feel authentic and immersive. Their goal is to transform the role-playing experience in The Lord of the Rings Online and The Elder Scrolls Online into engaging series that take viewers on an unforgettable journey.
What makes these series special is that they are purely fan projects with no commercial intent. The creators earn no money from their work and finance everything themselves – purely out of love for role-playing. They invest not only time and money but also a great deal of passion and dedication to share their work with the role-playing community.
What Is Alenwen About?
Darkbats Alenwen is a compelling fan-made series set in the world of The Lord of the Rings Online (#LotRO). It offers a fresh and original perspective on Middle-earth and tells a unique story.
At its core is a young elven woman named Alenwen, who is naïve and inexperienced as she sets out on her journey. Along the way, she encounters various fascinating characters, including:
- Skaldiv – a strong-willed Beorning devoted to nature and her honeybees. She is moody, enjoys drinking Schnappsbier, and prefers solitude—except when selling her honey, which is one of the rare times she engages in conversation. Her most loyal companion is her dog, Erwin.
- Frecha – a cheerful Hobbit lady from the Shire, known for her lively and joyful personality.
Alenwen is particularly intrigued by Skaldiv and does everything she can to befriend her. However, Skaldiv initially finds Alenwen annoying and repeatedly pushes her away. But as time passes, she realizes that she has grown fond of the lively elf—though she would never admit it so easily. The series follows this unusual dynamic, leaving open the question of whether their bond will truly turn into a lasting friendship.
A Look at Season Two
Since winter 2023, Darkbats Alenwen has been running its second season, which differs from the first. Originally, the plan was to continue the main storyline, but technical difficulties led to an alternative approach. The new episodes explore the childhood stories of Alenwen and Skaldiv. This season is expected to consist of six episodes and aims to offer improved storytelling and higher production quality.
